We were pretty much home taking care of fuzzy wee ones and getting ready for New York after the Holidays. Sutter picked up a Best Junior in Pine Bluff, AR. We had just gone over for a one day show to get her in the ring before the Garden and it payed off. Sutter. Angela, Gary and I flew to the Big Apple and met up with Rae Nell (Satchmo's mom), Mike and Mandy (Justin's parents) and Wade to present 3 of the 5 invitees to Westminster this year. Bentley, Hex and Justin were all invited and we wanted them all to be in attendance. I was also celebrating my 40th on Valentine's day. What better way to spend that dreaded day than with friends in New York City? We also had flown in the day before the record 27" snow fell on the city. It was beautiful and interesting the rest of the weekend. We even witnessed a guy skiing down the streets. Dogs performed well, but Justin was having lots of fun, since I had never shown him. He loved seeing what he could get away with. But, I will say he was the most animated he's been in awhile. Hex and Bentley took the only 2 Award Of Merit's under judge Lester Mapes. Lots of firsts for Sutter. It was great to see her experiencing the city.
Off to shows in the area that always draw big majors. Cuddles picked up two 4pt majors, one included going BOS over specials. Sensation owned by Dick and Karen Labonte from Jackson, MI picked up his third major to finish his title, Ch. Trumpet's Overnight Sensation. "Sensation" has had all health tests, including OFA Excellent hips. Scarlet picked up 12 points in these two weekends of shows and this leaves both girls only needing 3 singles. Scarlet was Best Opp Sex over specials each day and Best Of Winners for two 5 pt majors. I was so proud of her, since she hadn't been in the ring since May at Nationals. We also finished another beautiful male in Louisville. "Hot Shot" is co-bred with me and owned by Carol Tucker in Little Rock, AR and is now Ch. Shakota's Shot In The Dark. He has also had all his health tests and is OFA Good. Finishing in style, he looked and showed wonderful for his 5 pt. major on the first day I had shown him since he was a puppy. Bentley and Wade are starting to get it together and they have accomplished a Group 1, several group placements and #1 rankings in both Breed and All-Breed systems.
Bentley goes Best In Show in Iowa with Wade and under judge Don Rogers.
Off to Nationals. We crazily flew 3 people and 6 dogs to Portland, OR. Sutter and Lyndsey went this year, Caitlin was unable to miss school. Sutter went Best Junior at the National event and Lyndsey won her class that day. The weather was so pleasant and a nice break from hot, humid Memphis. We started the week with a 3rd in BBX with Stryder, 2nd in 12 to 18 with a coatless Frenchie and won the BBX with Scarlet and took Reserve Winners. Bounce and Hot Shot both made the cuts but Justin was our big Award of Merit winner that day. We showed Hex, Bentley and Justin at the Invitational dinner. There was only one runner-up award handed out and that went to Justin, handled by Wade. He showed that week, like he really misses it.
At the remaining events, Bounce was Best In Maturity under fellow breeder Carole Henry. Scarlet took 3rd in BBX and Frenchie won the 12 to 18 class. Hot Shot and Bounce made the first cuts once again, but this time Bentley was the Select Award Winner of the group. Owynn was brought back out from not seeing the show ring since he finished at the 2003 CA nationals. Sutter and Owynn looked great together and he was another Select Award Winner for us that day. We appreciate Kim and Scott Vanhise for doing such a wonderful job in keeping the dogs in condition and allowing us the pleasure of presenting them to the fancy when the opportunity arises.
Most of us are taking the summer off from shows as usual, and even Bentley had to take a break to change out his uniform.... Wade and the kids still managed to accomplish a Group win on Bentley and finishing Canadian championships on Hazel and Bentley. Hex has a new champion daughter, "Kristi" Ch. Sonata's Secret Sensation owned by Deb and Mark Loesser finished easily as a baby. Way to go! I hear her brother is not far behind her......
Not much going on this fall, either. Caitlin and Sutter attended a few local shows and showed Oxford and Hex in Juniors. They picked up some placements, but nothing exciting. However, Bentley and Wade went to the Canadian National Specialty and went Best In Show the night after the National. We had a few kids finish this fall: "Chynna" Ch. Trumpet's Chynna Cat Sunflower owned by Bonnie Hronek also has all her health tests completed and waiting for Mr. Right to come along. "Claire" Ch. Trumpet's Drop Dead Gorgeous owned by Kathy Sokac is also a lady in waiting and has just moved with her family near me in Northern Mississippi. Satchmo, Bentley and Dylan all have new champion kids...... "Maggie" Ch. Hermit's City Of Angels also owned by Kathy, "Scooter" Ch. Foxfair Let It Ride owned by newbies Sally Carr and Doug Kepp and "Valentina" Ch. Foxfair Valentina owned by Debbie Lynch/Jeanne Buente CONGRATULATIONS!!
Bentley goes BOS Heart of America Keeshond specialty #1 and Best of Breed Heart of America Keeshond specialty #2. Trumpet's Dreamboat Annie goes Best In Sweeps @ Buckeye Keeshond specialty show under breeder judge Cheri Treber and Best Opp in Sweeps the 2nd specialty under breeder judge, Irene Fonseca. Bounce finishes his championship with another Best Of Winners at the Buckeye Keeshond specialty. Stryder picks up an Award of Merit (first weekend out as a special). It was really exciting when Bentley and Stryder were in the running against each other for Breed or Opp. Bentley ended up going Best Opp both days of the specialty supported entry. It was another exciting finish to a good year. Bentley and Indy battled it out til the end for the top dog spot in breed points. Whoever won breed the last day of Cleveland would win the title. Congratulations Indy and all her fans. We will take home top male keeshond in breed points for the year.
